Frequently Asked Questions- Responding to your concerns

This section addresses the most frequent questions about armoring. If for any reason this section does not cover or contain the information that you are interested in, please feel free to contact us.

  • Does armoring affect my car performance?

A car’s performance is not generally affected by armoring, but it is a fact that your car will have an increase in weight that will be reflected on the effort made by the engine and suspension, with the associated wear. As a general rule, it can be said that the higher the armoring level, the greater the weight added to your vehicle, which means more frequent maintenance.

Light armoring weighs about 100 kilograms whereas Level V or VI can weigh over 700 kilograms.
  • What materials are used in armoring?

Glass. All glass is armored with a glass and polycarbonate combination. The higher the level of ballistic resistance, the thicker the glass; however, it is manufactured in a way that its thickness does not cause any visual distortions. Furthermore, in spite of being bullet-resistant, it does not draw the attention from the outside.

Opaque parts: The layer of armor or plating system that is installed under the vehicle bodywork, the most common armoring material being ballistic steel. Like glass, the thicker the ballistic steel, the more resistant it is.

In addition to ballistic steel there are other lighter armoring materials. These are aramid or polymer synthetic fibers that due to their high density are highly resistant to ballistic impact.

There are those in the industry that combine two or more of these materials and give them a brand name of their own, but this is simply armoring products available in the market. To learn more about vehicle armoring and its history you can consult the related page on Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.

  • How safe is a used armored vehicle?

In all cases we advice to request a professional evaluation (either from us or from other experts) to determine the quality of the armor and the point in which it is on its life cycle.

If the vehicle is armored with ballistic steel, its useful life can be very long offering a good level of protection.

If it is armored with synthetic fibers you should keep in mind that the useful life of this kind of armoring materials is four to five years. Actually some of the manufacturer companies give one year of warranty of protection on these fibers, due to the fact that they are biodegradable.

  • Is it advisable to armor only some parts of a vehicle, such as glass?

It can be done but it is not advisable. What happens in these cases is that it leaves many ballistic gaps (the term used in the industry to refer to the spaces through which a bullet can penetrate), which truly exposes the passengers’ life. We do not do this sort of armoring and we definitely do not recommend it.

  • What vouches for your work seriousness?

Firstly, our experience: Over 20 years in the business as a successful company. In addition, our business operations are regulated through a quote (in the case of individual clients) or contract (for tendering for companies or public institutions). Such documents specify the armoring characteristics, warranties, delivery times, and costs.

  • Is it possible to buy a car via Protecto Glass and have it delivered armored?

Yes. In fact, given that throughout our history we have purchased many cars to armor, we can get you additional discounts in many makes, which are not available to regular customers at the dealers’. Ask about your specific case, we might get an attractive deal for you. Of course, we act solely as an intermediary in good faith in these instances: You pay the car dealer directly and they bill you.

Once the purchase has been conducted, we can pick up your vehicle if you instruct us so, and we take it to our plant for armoring. That way you will be shielded from the first day you drive it.

  • How long does the integrity and functionality of synthetic fibers last?

Its lifetime cycle as armored protection materials is four to five years. Actually some of the manufacturer companies give one year of warranty of protection on these fibers, due to the fact that they are biodegradable.
